Dates available to book in September, October, November, and December 2025!
Welcome to Talented Teens, the flexible, friendly Zoom class designed for your adolescent dog.
Often, adolescence can be a rocky time for our dogs, and so by extension, for us too! A common feature of adolescence is a drop in a dog’s threshold for frustration or boredom - this can lead to a dog who at times seems totally crazy and out of control, and at others who is seemingly unable to complete easy tasks. Another common experience is adolescent dogs becoming more sensitive, which can sometimes show itself as new reactivity when around other dogs or humans.
Adolescence is a complex time, full of ups and downs. With all of these things in mind, I wanted to create a class that would be as easy, fun, and accessible as possible to anyone with a teenage dog, even those who might at times struggle to work around others. These classes are also fantastic for older rescue dogs in need of some general training, as you can participate even while they're still in their settling-in period, and even if you're unsure of how they will be around other dogs or people.
For these reasons, classes are available ONLINE ONLY, via Zoom. Classes will run just as my in-person courses do, but you’ll be able to complete them from the comfort of your own home! This helps to keep your dog calmer, more focused, and maximises what you can get out of the session without worrying about what they’re up to the entire time.
You can also attend on your own schedule - classes are offered in blocks of 6 weeks, and you can sign up for as many or as few as you like! NB: you can unlock a better saving by booking in bulk, and doing so is also great for keeping up momentum with your training progress, as well as accessing support when you need it.
Recall is a critical, core skill for any dog to have, but often it can go awry! We'll cover common obstacles to success, working with instead of against, and more.
One of the things I get asked to help with all the time! Frustrating and potentially unsafe at times, we'll take a look at steps we can take to improve your dog's lead walking skills asap!
We'll build this easy enrichment tool into something that serves many everyday purposes, including improving focus and bond when out and about!
Learn about appropriate and inappropriate meeting and interaction habits, and how to build up some more 'polite' skills.
Get some confidence for yourself when out and about with emergency skills and and understanding of what to do in various scenarios.
Confidence (and calmness) are both important things to actively foster within young dogs. I'll give you exercises and advice to help you do exactly this!
I'll deliver some talks on key topics such as canine body language, enrichment, and common hazards.
Handling considerately and appropriately for real-life scenarios such as basic husbandry, vet visits, and grooming.
Learn some of the advanced skills that can be applied to dog sports like Hoopers, or simply used for your own fun and games at home and on walks!
No, this course is FULLY REMOTE, and will be taught via Zoom. If you live within my working area (within 30mins of South Croydon, CR2), you're welcome to book 1:1 training with me, or to check out other courses I have available.
You'll need:
- A device that can connect to the internet
- Zoom - a free app that can be downloaded onto a computer, phone, or tablet
- A stable internet connection
- A suitable clear training space of approximately 2x2m - this can be anywhere, just ideally clear of furniture or other items that you could knock into whilst working
- A working camera on your chosen device - while you can attend sessions without the camera, if you don't have a working video I will be unable to coach you!
This course is geared specifically towards adolescent dogs, so dogs aged around 6 months up to and around 2 years of age. However, dogs over 2 years are welcome to attend, as this type of training could also benefit rescue dogs who are a little older.
I wouldn't recommend this course for dogs under the age of 6 months, as the content is designed to be a little more challenging and again, is tailored specifically to suit dogs in a different stage of life. If you're looking for classes for a puppy under 6 months, please check out my course 'Perfect Pups'!
In terms of previous training; while it is generally helpful to have done some in the past, it's not a necessity that you or your dog have completed training previously. I'll be making sure to get you up to speed with crucial training theory, and will always tailor the exercises to suit the level of everyone working with me per class!
No! Here's the things that you'll need in order to train:
- A selection of treats
- A fixed-length lead (no extendis, slip/choke/check leads)
- Something for your dog to do when we're talking, eg. a chew, lickmat, or similar (optional)
At times, I may get you to make use of some common household items (eg. bits of cardboard waste, towels or blankets, dog toys), but will always be able to find a way for you to complete the exercise with what you have available.
The focus of these classes is not specifically on resolving more complex behavioural issues such as existing reactivity, although they are well-suited to dogs who already display these behaviours since they're remote!
We'll be covering training exercises that help to create a more calm, confident, and responsive dog overall. These things may have a positive impact on your dog's behaviour when out and around other dogs or people, however the best way to resolve this issue is to work directly with a qualified trainer or behaviourist.
